About us
Founded in 2012, the High Desert Big Band is an all-volunteer community group. The conductor and musicians volunteer their own time. As a 501c3, our non-profit status allows us to bring the sounds of the Big Band Era to private gatherings, community events, and charities for a modest donation. Those earnings offset the costs of music acquisition, travel, and performance expenses. The musicians and conductor benefit by having an opportunity to work together to advance their artistic talents, while preserving the art of American Jazz, and contributing to the cultural well-being of our community.
The group consists of 15 to 17 members that concentrate on the performance of jazz standards from composers and band leaders such as Glen Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, and Woody Herman. We also have a wide variety of selections that include pop favorites from the ‘50s, ‘60s, & ‘70s.
